While the movement runs strong over an approximate 43 hour power reserve period, it was running about 9 minutes slow by the end of this power reserve period. Additionally, the hacking feature does not work. Given this and considering the movement's unknown service history a complete overhaul is recommended.
This vintage Glycine Airman has a matte black "-T-SWISS-T-" signed dial that is in lovely but not perfect condition as there is lume degradation to some of the dial markers and there is significant dust/debris on the underbelly of the crystal and to a lesser extent on the surface of the dial. The lume , which emits a quick-burst glow after being exposed to bright light, shows slight cracking which can only be seen under high magnification. In person the dial and lume present beautifully. The stainless steel bezel, which rotates smoothly bidirectionally when unlocked, looks great. To unlock the bezel the lower crown needs to be unscrewed. To lock the bezel simply screw down this crown.
The all stainless steel case is in excellent condition showing minor wear and bruising with no signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped "STAINLESS STEEL AUTOMATIC WATERPROOF INCABLOC SWISS" with PAT.
314050" followed by "323.1119" and "940013. While the crystal shows scratching there is significant dust/debris on its underbelly.
While I normally show pictures of the movements of watches that I put up for sale I don't have the appropriate tool to remove the case back on this one. The quickset date function works flawlessly by manually rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 21 and 24 hour marks until the desired date has been reached. After winding the sharply threaded, correct cross-hatched crown 39 full revolutions the movement was running about 9 minutes slow by the end of the approximate 43 hour power reserve period. The hacking feature, which should work by pulling out the crown and seeing the seconds hand being stopped by a small.
06 mm steel wire that pops up between the "2" and "4" of the 24, does not work. I do not know if the wire is simply bent and currently underneath the dial or if it's missing entirely from a watchmaker forgetting to include it upon reassembly after the movement was serviced at some point in the past. Given that the movement runs slow, that the hacking feature does not work and considering the movement's unknown service history a complete overhaul is recommended. This watch measures approximately 35 mm excluding the crown, approximately 38.5 mm including the crown and approximately 20 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 8 mm.Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 10 mm. This watch comes on a beige NATO strap that is in good condition. Additionally this watch comes with its original wood box and long-expired guarantee. Although the box is in great overall condition it does have some handwriting and tape on it. Additional pics can be happily provided upon request. While the movement runs strong it does run approximately 9 minutes slow by the end of its power reserve and the hacking feature does not work. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility. And please study the 12 high magnification pictures carefully as they are part of the description and serve as an accurate representation of the condition of this watch. While the movement runs strong over an approximate 43 hour power reserve period, it was running nearly 9 minutes slow by the end of this power reserve period.
