1980 Alembic Series I Vintage Electric Bass 100% Original with Case & Paperwork
Up for sale, a 1980 Alembic Series I vintage electric bass in near mint condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original case, factory paperwork, and DS5 "Blue Box" power supply. With a roster including The Who, The Grateful Dead, and Stanley Clark, Alembic quickly established themselves as one of the pioneering voices in bass guitar artistry in the 1970s, a tradition which continues to the present day. Featuring a medium 32 scale, this bass boasts the original Alembic Series I design with active electronics, neck through body construction, brass hardware, and a truly impressive array of articulate expressive tones. The bass offers tons of attack, balanced with ample midrange presence, near infinite tonal sculpting, and the kind of kick and power that comes with active electronics. A true innovator in active electronics, Alembic created an infinitely tweakable and organic sounding design, eschewing the colder sounds of many active circuits offered by other manufacturers. The bass weighs 11lbs 6oz and has been strung with roundwound 45-105 strings. As all Alembic instruments are relatively unique in the tone woods offered, below is an accounting of the woods used in this Alembic's construction, pulled directly from the hand-written and dated factory spec sheet included with the instrument. In terms of neck shape, this Alembic has a comfortable medium C with only a slight perceptible increase in shoulder and overall profile depth as you travel up the 32 scale. 832 at the 1st fret, graduating to. 970 at the 12th fret. The thick slab Gaboon ebony fretboard retains the original medium jumbo fretwire which shows virtually no wear. The thick brass nut measures 1 3/4 in width, and the headstock retains the original Schaller chrome tuning machines. The original metal Alembic logo is also present at the zenith of the headstock. All electronics work as intended, and all original hardware is intact, with the impressive brass bridge and sustain block central to the resonance of the instrument.
Light touch of patina on the brass neck spacer and forward edge of brass bridge, and cosmetic wear on the elegant and ergonomic body shape is extremely minimal. The original smooth satin finish highlights the figuring in the cuts of bubinga chosen for the top and back of the bass, and a. Side from a few extremely minor finish scratches central to the back and a stray nick or two, this bass is as clean as the day it left the Alembic workshop almost 40 years ago.
