With original case and strap. The hardshell case is also original, and is in great condition for its age, with some minor damage to the tolex, undamaged interior, with all hinges and catches working as expected.
The 1976 guitars had the larger headstock, which on this model carries the serial number, and this matches the serial number stuck to the underside of the pickguard. The markings on the pots and grey-bottomed pickups appear correct, and the neck pocket bears the name of Fender luthier'J Frausto', along with other Fender stamp marks. This is the vibrato model, and the springs are strong and the vibe works well, up and down. Included with the guitar and case are the original bridge cover, and a period-correct woven Fender guitar strap, which was in the case when I bought it.
The'76 models were characterised by the larger headstock, the 3 point neck clamp with the micro neck-adjust screw, and the bullet truss rod adjuster at the headstock. The standard Fender'F' tuners are in great cosmetic condition and hold the guitar in tune very well. The overall condition of this guitar is fantastic, and it is a really fine example of the'76 model year. There are very few signs of wear, but the guitar has obviously been used. There is a small amount of buckle rash on the guitar back, and fret wear is absolutely minimal. Yet there is some rust on the bridge cover and some of the pickguard screws, consistent with player perspiration not being wiped off after playing.
The case is in excellent condition, but shows obvious signs of wear on the tolex, suggesting that the guitar has travelled around. There are some light scratches on the three-ply pickguard, but beyond that the guitar is largely unmarked. The beautiful lustre of the fine grain in the ash body looks gorgeous, and the honey coloured finish has a couple of very minor dings, suggesting the guitar has spent much of its life in the case. There are no marks or dents in the neck, the frets look virtually new, and there are only a few minor signs of use on the maple fretboard. This is an exceptional example of the 1976 Fender Stratocaster, in original condition, complete with its original case and a Fender guitar strap from the 70s.
From a collector's perspective, the 70s was not seen as Fender's finest period, but with 50s and 60s Fenders now firmly out of the reach of anyone other than the wealthy, interest is growing in good examples from the 70s. And this is a fantastic, original, unmodified example from this period, and is sure to become increasingly valuable as supply begins to dry up. Please look closely at the detailed photos to fully appreciate the beauty of this increasingly rare, and desirable instrument.
Even the dog loves the look, and the fragrance, of this classic, vintage guitar! (Note: dog is not included). Look what buyers of my guitars are saying. I can't put it down. Great guitar very well packed.Very honest in every detail. This item is part of my own personal collection.
I have been motivated by a desire to own, handle and play, guitars and amplifiers that, when I was younger, I could never have afforded to own. With the collection now in storage, I dont get to appreciate them often enough to justify keeping so many great instruments to myself. I have therefore decided to pass on the majority of my collection, in the hope that others may get as much pleasure from these instruments as I have over the years. The guitars are in storage and are not immediately accessible, but if there are specific photos you would like to see, please ask.I always strive to provide a balanced and accurate description, together with detailed photos for you to form your own view. But these vintage guitars are 40+ years old, and I have not owned any of them from new, so there is always an element of risk, as there was for me when I bought them. But please bear in mind these are well used, vintage instruments, and their condition will in general reflect that fact.
