807 at the 1st fret and. The original frets have been dressed and crowned, showing virtually no wear up the neck. The frets have ample life left, playing cleanly up the neck with no buzzing or dead spots. The stock nut measures a full 1 11/16 in width. On the headstock, the original Kluson double-line deluxe tuners and "Gibson" truss rod cover are also intact.
All of the electronics work as they should with untouched solder joints and CTS pots which date to the 52nd week of'65. Both patent stickers are clean and intact on the undersides of the pickups, and the pickups read 6.38k ohms in the bridge position and 6.39k at the neck. The body routes are original and untouched, and all of the stock hardware is intact including the reflector cap knobs, ABR-1 bridge, and stock pickguard that shows only moderate shrinkage, with light wear across the pick path and a well preserved red silkscreened Firebird emblem. One of the pickguard screws has been slightly relocated to secure the guard in place. The original nickel long frame Maestro Lyre Vibrola works extremely well for bends and surfy shimmies, jumping back to the original pitch with ease. This is a very expressive and responsive tailpiece, complete with the original vibrato arm. Cosmetically, the guitar boasts light, honest playwear, and the original nitro lacquer sunburst finish is vibrant and unfaded, checking out under a blacklight, and presenting a rich amber brown in the center of the burst that transitions to a darker brown at the edges of the body.
There is tight and prominent horizontal finish checking on the face of the instrument, and fainter, wider lacquer checking on the back. There are various nicks and dings around the edges of the body, and the finish is only worn through to the bare mahogany along the treble side edge of the body. Barring a spot of finish wear behind the 10th fret, and a handful of small shallow marks, the neck profile is in outstanding shape. The headstock displays tight vertical checking on the front, and light wear around the edges and back, but most importantly exhibits no cracks or repairs of any kind! The wear is quite minimal for a guitar of this vintage and rarity, and overall this is a very well-kept example, and one of the nicest non-reverse Firebirds on the market today.A modern hardshell case is included.
